The following documents are required when applying for a work visa from outside Canada.

Note: If your documents are not in English or French, you must provide a certified translation into English or French for each document.

Diplomas and Educational Certificates
Provide scanned copies of all diplomas, degrees, or certificates for your completed education.

Police Certificates

Get a police certificate from your home country.
If you have lived in other countries for more than 6 months in the last 10 years, you should also get police certificates from those countries.

Passport

Scan the main page of your passport that shows your photo and personal details.
Also scan all other pages that contain:

  • Visas
  • Entry and exit stamps
  • Residence permits or other stamps

Ideally, your passport should be valid for at least 2–3 more years, because your visa may also be issued for up to 2–3 years.

Photo

You need a digital photo with:

  • Size: 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm
  • White background

It is best to take your photo at a professional photo studio.

Only a digital photo is needed.
❌ You do not need to print the photo and scan it.

French Language Certificate (TCF Canada or TEF Canada)

You must take either the TCF test or the TEF test. Both are accepted.
Choose the one that is faster and easier to take in your country. If there are no test dates available in your country, or if you have to wait too long for a test date, you can try to find test centers in nearby countries.

For the TCF test

  • Your listening score must be 369 or higher
  • Your speaking score must be 6 or higher
  • Your reading and writing scores do not matter

For the TEF test

  • Your listening score must be 352 or higher
  • Your speaking score must be 387 or higher
  • Your reading and writing scores do not matter

Employment Letters

You need an employment letter from your current employer in your country.
If you can also get an employment letter from a previous employer, please include it.
If you cannot, that is not a problem.

The employment letter must include:

  • Official company letterhead (company logo, address, and contact details)
  • How long you have worked there (for example: February 2020 to present)
  • Your job position
  • Your job duties and responsibilities

If you receive your salary in your bank account

If your salary is paid into your bank account, you should get a bank statement for the last 6 months. This statement should show how much salary you received each month.

Ask your bank for a 6-month bank statement that shows your salary deposits.

If you receive your salary in cash
If your salary is paid in cash, you should provide monthly payslips.
Each payslip should show:

  • How much you received
  • A signature
  • A company stamp

Why employment letters are important
Employment letters are very important for work permit applications.
Visa officers use them to check your work history and to make sure your experience matches the job you are being offered in Canada.

Your Resume or CV

Your resume (CV) should include:

  • Your skills
  • All the companies you have worked for
  • Company names
  • Company locations
  • Job positions you held
  • Years you worked in each job (from – to)
  • Your duties and responsibilities in each role
  • Your education level
  • Degrees or certificates you received
  • Years you studied (start year – graduation year)
  • School or institution name, including city and country

Proof of Immigration Status (If you do not live in your home country)

If you do not live in your home country, you must provide documents that show you are legally allowed to stay in the country where you live now.

Family Documents

  • A scanned copy of your marriage certificate (if you are married)
  • A scanned copy of your children’s birth certificates (if you have children)

Financials

Proof of funds means showing money in your bank account.

The recommended bank balance is at least 5,000 CAD (for one person).

If your salary is paid into your bank account and your savings are in the same account, and the balance is enough, you do not need a separate bank deposit statement.

If your salary is not paid into your bank account, or if you want to use a separate bank account, you can deposit cash into your bank account and get a bank statement.

You do not need to show a transaction history.
You can deposit the money and then get the bank statement.

Is a bank deposit mandatory?
No, it is not mandatory.
We have seen many applications approved without a bank deposit, but it is always recommended to have one.

Properties (House, Land, Vehicle)

If you own property, such as a house, land, or a vehicle, you may include documents showing ownership.Having property can strengthen your application, especially if the value is high, because it shows financial stability and strong ties to your home country.

However, owning property is not required. If you do not have any property, your application can still be approved.
